John goes towards Derek, which seats on the ground while eating something strange. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
He's standing next to Derek, and looks at him. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
John | (Indicating the ground, beside Derek) Can I?
Derek waves him to sit, and John sits down. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Derek takes a bar of a military food from a pocket and gives it to John. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
John | (Takes it) What is this?
Derek | Don't ask questions whose answers you might not like... ...and eat. So, what's your impression about Rudolf? |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
John | You're right, physically he doesn't look like a military leader... But how he is, as a person... how he lives... He is exactly as I figured him. |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Derek | I've known him for years, he has not always been as he's now.. The war changed us all, who the more, who the less... |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
John | Him the more? | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Derek | He was a sociable person. When people around you keep dying... When those who you consider your friends continue to go, day by day... You could be tempted not to want to see anyone anymore. |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
John | Yeah... I see... | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Derek | He is still a good chief, and a good leader... (Looking at John) But he is a very lonely man... |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
John opens the stick and begins to eat it. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
He has a strange face. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Derek | (Snickers) Yes, I should have warned you it is not exactly "delicious", but it is nutritive and balanced. It's a complete meal, you only need some water (giving him a canteen). |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
John | It tastes like cardboard...
Derek | I don't wanna know why you know the taste of cardboard...
John | Tell me more about him, about is past. How did he become the leader? |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Derek | I think he has only been the right man in the right moment.
John | Only the right man in the right moment you say? So you mean everyone could have been the one? |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Derek has an amazed and interrogative face, frowns his eyebrows. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Derek | (Suddenly looking at John) Everyone, you ask? No, absolutely not! (Looks forward again) He is a great man, there are really very few like him! |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
He slowly moves his head from left to right and vice versa |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Derek | ... let's say that, among those few ones, he has been the one in the right place at the right moment...
John | So, a lucky occurrence, not an exceptional one, so...
Derek | Yes, somehow... Why are you so interested? |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
John | Well, when saw how he lives, alone... and where he lives... So much responsibility and as much loneliness... I don't know, he reminds me of someone... someone they talked me about... |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Derek | I know what you mean. We fight, we risk our lives every day, but not for this I'd trade my life with the lonely safety of that bunker... But someone has to be there! |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
John | Yeah... (Bites the bar again.)
It's morning in the bunker, and the heavy door is open, letting the external light to enter. Sarah and Murch are near a car, he has is laptop and a backpack with him. Sarah has bound her hair, wears a military hat, and some sunglasses. She's unrecognizable enough. There's also Ellison, not elegantly dressed: running suit and dark glasses. He approaches Sarah, taking her aside. Ellison |
Yesterday Savannah asked me about her mother... |
Ms. Weaver is officially in Japan for business... but I don't know, what should I tell her? Sarah |
For sure not that her mother is death we don't know how long ago, and that she has lived with a Terminator... |
Tell her she is traveling for work. Ellison |
(Slightly low eyes) OK... |
I'll close everything and come with you: I want to take my car. Sarah and Murch get into the car, Sarah drives, while Ellison walks to the outside. The car exits the mountain and Ellison closes all, then gets aboard, on the rear seat. They leave. Sarah |
Did you take everything? |
Murch |
Yes, everything is ready. |
Go to a non inherent place, in the suburbs. Sarah |
OK. | They are in the traffic, somewhere in some suburb. Murch has his computer on his lap. Murch |
(Looking at the screen) Enter into an alley, here is good. |
She turns to the right, to an alley, and stops. Ellison |
I will glance around while you're here, then I'll proceed by feet to my car. |
It's in a safe place, not connected to me or Weaver. He gets out of the car and begins to discreetly look around, while slowly walking away. Murch |
Perfect. (Types something, strikes Enter) |
(After a few seconds, with a satisfied face) Excellent! Sarah |
What is so "excellent"? |
Murch |
I hacked into a private WiFi, so if they tried to track us, they'd arrive to... I don't know who. |
Sarah |
I'm not well understanding... but do what you have... |
Murch |
Now I'll properly make myself invisible in the net, then I'll place the order. |
It will take two minutes, I only need to send the file... Sarah |
(Taking a weapon and watching around, mirrors included) Good... |
Murch |
OK... OK... |
Perfect, now I check the reply... Sarah |
(Watching around) Any problem? |
Murch |
Perfect, goods ordered and paid. |
Untraceable transaction from an unidentifiable connection. Sarah |
How long will it take? |
Murch |
24 hours. |
John Henry very carefully selected the suppliers! Sarah |
Can we go now? |
Murch |
I need to go back to my home, to take some other stuff. |
Sarah |
Why didn't you take all yesterday? |
Murch |
Because, not having the complete instructions, I had no idea of what I could have needed. Turn on the left. |
They leave, hailing Ellison, who goes away by feet.
In the tunnels someone screams: "HK!" General agitation, soldiers take their weapons and spy outside, remaining hidden. There are two Hunter-Killers, patrolling, outside. Total silence in the tunnels. Kyle nods John to be quiet and to stay down. Walking down, he proceeds along the tunnel, followed by two other men. John follows them too, remaining down. They arrive to a post with a mini-Gatling, but they don't use it. They keep watching outside, trying not to be seen. Kyle |
(With a low voice) Stay down, if they attack us we'll need to shoot them down them before they can communicate our position. |
All nod a "yes" with their heads. The HKs continue to patrol, slowly leaving the area.
Sarah is still in the car with Murch, still in the town. Murch |
That's it. |
Hey, you passed it! Sarah |
I know, let me do it my way. |
Sarah tours around the building, scanning around. She parks on the back and gets out of the car, gripping a gun, arms down. Sarah |
Let's go. |
They enter from the back. All is calm. Murch's home is relatively disordered... a typical home for a single... Sarah |
Take all what you need, quickly, we won't come here again. |
Murch |
OK. (Takes a big bag and begins to put things inside it.) | (The bag is almost full, he closes it) We can go. Sarah |
(Exits first, watching around) Move on. |
(She takes the bag from his hands) You drive, don't take busy streets and don't go directly there! Murch |
OK... |
They are back in the car, Sarah glances around. They leave. They stopped at a red light. In a trash near the car, a man drops a newspaper with a big photo of Sarah. She stretches her arm and takes it. Sarah |
"Sarah Connor fugitive again thanks to a technical problem!" |
"Mysterious mass escape from the jail yesterday: the automated control system of the prison, went bad opening all the doors." "The police has no clues, since the crazy system also deleted all the surveillance videos." "They are also looking for a woman, who should have been wounded during a shooting, but her descriptions are confused and discordant, and they strongly suspect she died after the wounds." "Among the fugitives, the most-wanted Sarah Connor." Murch |
John Henry did it! |
Sarah |
What? |
Murch |
It was John Henry who hacked into the system, opened the doors, and deleted the records. |
It was in the instructions he left us. Sarah |
Whoever did that, excellent! |
What have you taken of so important, from your home? Murch |
Watch by yourself. |
Sarah puts the newspaper away, takes the bag and opens it. She begins to extract some boxes. Sarah |
"Multi-frequency radio jammer" (looking at him) what is this? |
Murch |
Get it out of the box, connect it into the cigarette lighter socket, and turn it on. |
Sarah |
(Removes it from its box and connects it) And now? |
Murch |
Watch your mobile! |
She takes her phone and watches it: the display says "No Signal". Sarah |
There is no signal! |
Murch |
It blocks any kind of radio transmission, in a wide spectrum... |
Bugs, cell phones, remote-controls... We will use it in case they put a localizer on the goods. That's not all... Sarah |
(Switches off the jammer and takes another box) "Programmable GPS simulator"... |
(Looking at him and raising an eyebrow) What's with you, have you watched too many 007?! Murch |
That's a really good device. |
You set some coordinates, and it sends fake GPS signals to trick receivers near to it, letting them think they are in that place. It's even possible to insert a route, and it will simulate the street, so that the receiver will believe to be actually traveling that route. Sarah |
This is not stuff they sell in the supermarkets, where did you get it... |
Murch |
That's a military project... but nowadays you can find Chinese copies of everything, on the web! |
Sarah |
Why do you have it?! |
Murch |
Well... I have a friend whose wife was checking him with a GPS data-logger... |
Using that he's been able to trick her, avoiding an economically fatal divorce... Sarah |
I confirm: you watched too many 007! (She puts again the boxes in the bag) |
Murch |
Not him... |
After not even a month he has been caught red-handed, in his own home! Sarah |
Idiot! |
Murch |
Yeah... |
I've also brought a bug detector, a metal detector, and some bugs, audio and video... Sarah |
You're a collector of strange things... |
Murch |
(Suddenly raises the eyebrow for a moment, to confirm, while driving) "Strange" is a very relative concept... |
Sarah |
OK, now you can take the highway. Let's go back "home". |
| |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
After some time, John, Kyle, and the other two men are back. John |
Does it happen often? |
Kyle |
Yes, they always try to locate our bases. |
John |
I was thinking something... |
We should find a way to divert their attention, to bring them somewhere else when they arrive... Phil |
Yes... but how? |
John |
We should place, not so far from here, some weapons which should self activate when HKs approach, to attract them there. |
It should be something small, and we should put them in some fake-bases, so that, arriving there, they would think we were there and we just left. Kyle |
So, our friend has a brain! |
If they realize the weapons are firing nowhere they will understand... Phil |
Well, we can connect them to some kind of sensors, or something... |
I understand nothing about that, but I figure he could do that (pointing John). John |
(Has the expression of someone who's just had an inspiration) The chips! |
Phil |
What? |
John |
Why didn't I think about them before. |
We can reprogram the chips and use them to control the anti-aircraft artillery! Kyle |
(Looks at John thoughtful for some seconds) Come with me one moment... |
John follows him so they can talk privately. Kyle |
I don't know you, but I see you know what you do. |
I wanna trust you, but you have to keep the secret. Follow me! John nods a yes and follows him. They arrive to an armored door, at the end of a not so lightful tunnel. Kyle knocks. Above the door there is a camera. The door unlocks. Kyle |
(To John) Wait here. |
Kyle enters and closes the door after him. Outside the door, John is thoughtful. He keeps watching outside through a fissure in the wall, looking high, over the horizon. He's somehow satisfied, and a bit more serene.
Sarah and Murch are going back to the mountain with their auto. It's late afternoon. Sarah seems to have heard something strange, but doesn't do anything more. They arrive to the bunker, which is already open. Ellison is already inside. They get out of the car, inside the bunker, then begin to unload the car. Ellison and Murch continue to take stuff out of the car. From the entrance of the bunker, very quietly, the drone enters, flying close to the ground. The drone is seen from, in the darkness. Ellison and Murch are a few meters ahead it, and continue undisturbed. Sarah is at the entrance of the mountain, closes the rapid shutter. She quickly reaches the drone, and opens fire with an AK-47. Ellison and Murch hear and see all, they see the drone, which flies looking for an escape. The bullets don't damage it, but it's like crazy, nervous. Ellison starts firing too, while Murch tries to take refuge. Murch goes towards the jeep, staying down not to be hit by the drone who's flying wildly. Murch goes in the car. The drone lands and turns off, still. Sarah and Ellison watch one another, then watch Murch. Murch |
It's too small for someone to be inside, I thought it was radio controlled. |
The jammer worked. Sarah |
Radio controlled! What's the range? |
Murch |
I don't know, however not too much. |
Since it was working inside here, where we're shielded by the mountain, I would say at most 100m {328ft}. Sarah |
In 20 seconds turn off the jammer and keep shooting, but don't damage it. |
Ellison |
Where... |
Sarah exits by a small armored lateral door, with a rifle and binoculars. Murch switches the jammer off. After a few seconds the drone reactivates and lift off again. They begin shooting, including Murch with a Glock 17, but with much less effort and not hitting him.. Sarah is outside, well hidden, watching with the night vision binoculars. She switches the image to thermal vision. Now she sees a van with at least a man, at the wheel.
John is waiting outside the door, pensive. In a little time the door opens and Kyle exits. Kyle |
Hellak authorized us to let you know, but remember: everything you see must remain secret! |
Now go inside, I've well spoken about you. John enters, still thoughtful. Inside there are various equipments, computers, and various pieces of Terminators. Many chips. At the end of the small room, at a desk, there's a woman, seen from her back, working on a computer. She wears a White lab coat, and has some long copper hair. She's sitting on a tall stool with wells, but backless. John |
Hallo, Kyle Reese told me to enter. |
She raises a finger to tell him to wait. She keeps typing while an arm from a Terminator, vertically positioned on the desk, moves its fingers. John is silent and keeps looking around curiously. She's seen laterally now, and she's always at the computer. She is about 25, wears some small glasses and has a couple of small tools in the pocket of her lab coat. Woman |
(While still typing something) So, they told me you are the man with many ideas and many resources. |
John |
Well, that's what they say... |
I try to make myself useful, and I have an idea. And you, what do you do here, exactly: they didn't tell me anything about. Woman |
"Know the enemy!" |
John |
The Art of War. |
Woman |
Ah, So we also have a polymath guy... |
She turns towards him. She has a jerk. Scares. Takes a gun and aims it to him. John |
(Rises his hands) Hey, what are you doing? |
(Suddenly looks at his back, there is nothing) Kyle Reese told me to enter, don't shoot. Woman |
You! |
John |
I can go, if you want, put it down, please. |
Woman |
It's impossible! |
John |
What? What is impossible? |
I did nothing, put away that gun please... She looks at him for a few seconds. She slowly approaches him, always aiming the gun. Woman |
You!? |
John |
Me, me what? |
Woman |
The squirrel runs around the tree. |
John |
(Looks at her astonished) What? |
Woman |
That's you! |
How is it possible? She puts the gun away. John |
Savannah? |
What are you doing here? Woman |
Me? |
What are "you" doing here? You should be more than 30 by now, how do you... John |
(Lowers his hands) It's a long story, I can't explain it right now... |
Woman |
Who are you really? |
She takes a metal detector and passes it on his face. John |
Hey, calm down, I'm not one of them (pointing to the table with various disassembled parts), that's really me. |
And you, what do you do here? Woman |
I'm studying a way to reprogram the chips, with Rudolf. |
How can you look the same after so many years? John |
So many years you say... |
Well, I can't explain everything for now... (In an almost commanding tone) Listen, do not tell anyone who I am. No one, not even to Rudolf. They wouldn't trust me anymore! I can help you, but you have to keep the secret, okay? She remains pensive for some seconds, with a blank face. Woman |
OK, I'll' trust you... |
You saved my life when I was young... John |
How did you get here, to do what you do? |
Woman |
It must have been in my DNA... |
I began to be interested in Hi-tech a few after my mother disappeared... I thought it could have helped me to understand... She remains silent, pensive, for a few seconds. Woman |
(She stares at him anxiously) You know where my mother is, you were with her when she left! |
John |
Your mother? |
I don't know what to say... (lowers his eyes) Woman |
How can you be still so young? |
John |
I can't explain now, it is... |
Woman |
(She suddenly looks at him, amazed, wide open eyes) You worked it out, you did it! |
John |
What? |
Woman |
The hibernation! It works! |
John |
I can't answer, I already told you... |
It's a top-secret project. If Skynet founded about it, he would destroy us. You can't tell to anyone, including Rudolf. You can't trust anyone for something like this, (lightly shaking her shoulders with both hands) did you understand? Woman |
(Nods her head) OK, I got it. |
John |
So, how are you doing with the chips? |
Woman |
We're studying them for some time... |
We've been able to reprogram them and we're testing them in a safe place. John |
We? |
Woman |
Yes, Rudolf and I... |
Well, actually Rudolf did almost everything! John |
So it is not exactly correct that he doesn't meet anyone... |
Woman |
Meet? |
Oh, no... It's now a long time he doesn't show himself here anymore. I send him my results and he sends me his ideas, then he works in his bunker. By now, we cooperate, more than working together... John |
What have you been able to do? |
Woman |
To change the mission parameters. |
The Terminators are forced to respect them, inside that limit, they act as they think. John |
Like a brainwashed soldier! |
Woman |
Exact. |
Why did you come here? John |
What? |
Oh, right, I had an idea... I wanted to use the chips to create some automated anti-aircraft posts, to shoot down the HKs... Or at least, attract them away from us. But since you are already doing this, it is useless, we can directly use the reprogrammed Terminators. Woman |
Yes, actually, at the level we reached, it'd be useless... |
The posts would be fixed, while the Terminators can move... However, it was a good idea. John |
Can I help you with the chips? |
Woman |
No. |
Rudolf doesn't want anyone else to see the documentation about the procedure. I'm sorry, I can do no exceptions, not even for you... John |
I already developed my procedure, time ago, if I could have a computer and an interface, I could continue on my way, then we could compare methods and results... |
She thinks about for some seconds. Woman |
OK, take this (giving him a laptop) and this interface. |
I can't give you the software we developed, but if you want to work on your own, I'll give you what you need. For what I've heard, you're good, so why should I risk to lose a valid help?! John |
OK, thank you. |
I'll take a chip too (taking one from the table). Woman |
I'll tell Rudolf you have interesting theories and I gave you the armored room here abreast, so you can work in peace. |
You will not be allowed to enter here without my authorization, it will be closed! John |
Don't worry, I don't need to come here. |
Thank you! Woman |
Hey, John... |
John |
Yes. |
Woman |
(Lowering her eyes) No... nothing... |
John |
Hey, you remembered my name... |
Woman |
(Still looking down) Yes... |
John e Savannah exit from the room. Savannah talks to a guard. After a bit John enters the armored room here abreast, bringing his new equipment.
In the bunker, the drone lands again and shuts down. Ellison and Murch look at each other, then, cautiously, go near the drone. Sarah enters in the bunker, bringing a tied man who has visibly been beaten. She launches him on a chair. He is the man who survived the explosion at Kaliba, the second killer {Zoe's father}. They tie him to a chair with some duct tape, by the trunk and the ankles. His hands are tied on the back of the chair. Sarah |
Who are really you (punching him in the face)? |
Man |
(Moans) Fück you. |
Sarah |
(Punching him stronger) Hallo Mister Fückyou, who sent you? |
He doesn't answer, she punches him some more times, on the stomach and the face. Murch |
Hey, what... |
Sarah |
Shut up you, go away! |
Murch goes away. Sarah |
I know you work for Kaliba, I saw the videos. |
Man |
I don't know what you are talking about! |
Sarah |
The surveillance videos. |
The videos taken by the cameras of which all the houses you lived in were full. I've seen how you killed that boy and his family! (She punches him again) Man |
I've absolutely no idea of what you are talking about. |
Sarah |
Your daughter saw it too. |
And so did your wife. You dragged that boy downstairs... Then you killed him in front of his parents (she punches him again)... And then you killed them too. Man |
I don't know what you are talking about (with an arrogant smile). |
Murch |
(Who has just come back) Stop (while Sarah was going to punch the man again). |
I'll take care of our guest (filling a syringe from a bottle)... Ellison |
Hey, what are you doing?! |
Sarah |
What is that? |
Murch |
Sodium thiopental. |
Sarah |
Pentothal!? |
Where did you get that? Murch |
By the infirmary, drugs storage... |
This is a military bunker, my dear! Sarah |
I thought it was locked... How did you... |
Murch has a self-satisfied look, and a sadistic grin. He says nothing. Murch |
Shame this stuff has been here since the 70s... |
On the package it says to keep it cool, but the fridge was unplugged... He does one of his strange faces. Murch |
(Looking Ellison and Sarah) No problem if he then becomes a vegetable, right!? |
At least, this will let him talking, this is ensured! Man |
Hey, no, what do you wanna do? |
Murch |
Clamp him! |
Man |
You can't do this, no... (he begins to be scared) |
Murch |
No, you say?! |
My grandpa escaped to Argentine with forged papers and a fake name aboard the U-977, after the war... He was wanted by the Interpol and Mossad, because he worked as personal assistant to Doctor Josef Mengele... Der Todesengel... The angel of death! He removed his Schutzstaffel tattoo (pointing the inside of his left arm) with a red hot bayonet by himself... Don't tell to me what I can or cannot do to a man... His stories terrorized me when I was a kid, but I don't know why, I always liked them. He used to tell them with some kind of macabre poetry... (Looking at him straight in the eyes at not more than 15Cm) I could let you die just talking to you, simply telling you what he told me... Hey (in the same position, turning his head to Sarah and then to Ellison) when we have finished with him I won't bury him... But I don't want vultures fluttering over us, signaling our position, waiting for days for him to die under the sun. Sarah |
Don't worry, there is some fuel. So he won't suffer anymore. |
He's all yours... Josef! Man |
OK, OK, right... What do you want to know? |
Sarah |
He is bluffing, (watching Murch) proceed! |
Murch |
With great pleasure! |
He approaches the man with the syringe in his left hand, tapping on it on his right index finger, and letting the air out. He has a sadistic grin while watching the fluid gushing from the needle. Man |
No, No, stop it. |
Yes, that's true, I work for Kaliba. Murch |
(To Sarah) Do you trust him? |
C'm on, let me proceed my way! Sarah |
Let's hear what he says without it first, so that we can compare. |
I don't know how long he could resist to something expired almost 40 years ago... Murch |
Schade, es scheint dass wir warten müssen... (watching and caressing the syringe) |
Man |
No, no, no, OK, I'll tell you everything! |
I work for Kaliba. It was me who was controlling the drone when you shot Winston, to hide it. That's how I saw you. Sarah |
What do they do at Kaliba? |
Man |
What do you mean, "what do they do"? |
That (pointing the drone with his head)! They were studying new kinds of aircrafts. To sell them... I don't know, to the army, or to the best bidder. That's a reduced scale prototype, they told me. Sarah |
And what about the artificial intelligence? |
Man |
What artificial intelligence? (He seems really surprised) |
Sarah |
(Punches him again) The artificial intelligence you were projecting! |
Man |
Never heard about anything like that there. |
Never not even met someone who could work on an artificial intelligence, in that place. Sarah |
(Punch) Bullshït! |
Man |
They were all mechanical, aerospace, or robotic engineers... |
Or metallurgy or materials experts. I know it for sure, it was me who monitored the personnel! Sarah |
(To Murch) Proceed! |
Man |
No, no, no, I swear. |
Kaliba's business is only in aircrafts. I told you! It's a very lucrative business, why should they waste time and resources in something so different? Sarah |
What about the metal? |
Man |
The metal... |
You mean the alloy of... what's its name? I told you, there were experts in metals and alloys. It was used to produce the drones, to make them more resistant. You've just seen by yourselves... How many times did you shoot it, and you have not scratched it at all! Sarah |
If, as you say, this is a reduced scale prototype, what should have piloted the full size ones? |
Not the artificial intelligence? Man |
artificial intelligence, you are obstinate! |
Sarah punches him in the face, then Ellison prevents her from doing it again. Man |
One of its main advantages is its ease to pilot. |
Even Winston and I have been able to control it, think what a trained pilot could do. (In mocking pitch) "artificial intelligence"! You've seen too many Sci-Fi movies! Sarah |
Why did you attack the Zeira Corp? |
Man |
After you attacked us the first time, we weren't able to figure who you were, or who you were working for. |
Then you blasted the factory, and they all died. Sarah |
I did not blow up the factory, you did! |
Anyway I ensure you, I'd have been very willing to destroy it! Man |
When you have been arrested I recognized you by the news, and I was watching you to see who'd have come to visit you... |
When you escaped I followed you, and understood you were working for the Zeira, I realized that they did send you! That's a firm that has a finger in the pie everywhere, I realized that they did it, that they wanted to destroy the concurrency. When I thrown the drone I thought I'd have killed both you and their head woman... Then that kind of metallic wall appeared, I don't know, the images were disturbed during the impact. Then I called my men, they arrived and never came back. Sarah |
Excuse me if I'm not sorry at all for your friends... |
How did you find us, here? Man |
Him (pointing Murch with his head). |
He was missing among Zeira's main employees. I was checking his house when you appeared! I followed you with the drone, from the above. Sarah nervously walks, back and forth, for a bit, then returns to the man. Sarah |
What about the water men? |
Man |
Who? |
Sarah |
(Punches him again) The water carriers! |
(Another punch) Those who came to kill me in the hospital. Those who killed Charley (punches him harder)! Man |
I don't know who you're talking about, I swear! |
She gives a malignant look, sideways, to Murch. Man |
No, I swear, I don't know anything about water carriers. |
I don't know every detail of Kaliba, I monitored the technical personnel, I worked on security!
John is in his new room, at the computer, with all the equipments connected and a chip in the interface. He's using a software like the one he already used for Vick's chip. He's tired, shakes his head to avoid to nod off. He closes the screen of the laptop and goes outside his room, closing the heavy door on his back. John is around in the tunnels, with no real purpose... just taking some cool air. Derek sees him and approaches him. Derek |
Hey guy, where have you been, it's some days no one sees you. |
John |
I've been busy... how is it going around? |
Derek |
Yes, my brother mentioned me something... |
Should I expect, in some weeks, to have to put on the attention when I meet you? John |
(Smiling) Weren't this kind of things for regular armies?! |
Derek |
(Malicious grin) I hope so... |
Allison passes, smiling to both, though she's mainly looking at John. He gives her a hint of greeting and lowers his look. Derek |
It seems you impressed not only as a strategist... (Slapping John's shoulder backhand and pointing Allison with a head movement.) |
John |
It seems... |
Do you believe in fate? Derek |
Fate, you say... |
If you mean the fate of the mankind, we are trying to save it, with our forces, day by day... John |
No, I wasn't talking about that... |
I mean, the fate of each one of us... Derek |
You know, my brother often says that there is no fate... |
"There is no fate but what we make for ourselves", but... John |
Yes, I heard that... |
And what if sometimes that wasn't enough? If we weren't able to change our fate? Derek |
We cannot always do that, but what matters is to know that we did all that was in our power to do that, that we have really tried. |
John |
And if we knew in advance that we cannot change our fate... |
Should we really feel guilty for what'd be going to happen? Derek |
Guilty? |
(He goes closer and looks him straight in the eyes) What are you talking about... John |
(He turns away, looking up) Never mind, forget it... |
Derek |
John, is there something I should know? |
You haven't done anything stupid, have you? John |
Done? |
No... I've done absolutely nothing... I can do absolutely nothing... Not this time...
Sarah |
Who knows we are here? |
Man |
No one. |
Sarah |
Bullshït! (Another punch) |
Man |
No one. |
Kaliba put a reward on your head... If I had signaled someone else your location, they could have preceded me. I'm not stupid! Sarah |
I wouldn't be so sure about that... |
You committed a multiple homicide in front of some cameras that you knew where recording you... You came here alone to attack an atomic bunker... Man |
(Lowers his eyes) I should have deleted those videos. |
Sarah |
Too late... |
Man |
(Raises his head) Did my daughter really see it? |
Sarah |
Yes: she saw her father killing her boyfriend in cold blood! |
Sarah walks for a bit, thoughtful. Ellison |
What should we do with him now? |
Sarah |
We have a copy of the videos, and you are a federal agent. |
(To the man) We will bring you to Mexico, then we will give the record to the FBI. If you come back to the United States, you are fired, they will sentence you to the electric chair! Oh, smile! (Pointing a camera on a table, with a red LED on.) Man |
A confession took in this way has no legal value. |
Sarah |
Confession, what confession? | We have the videos for the homicide you committed... That (pointing the camera and beating the newspaper that was on the table against his chest) is just the proof that you are alive, today... If they knew you are alive your family'd lose the money from the insurance! Your daughter loved you! (Punching him again in the face) She begins to untie him, cutting the tape with a big survival knife. Sarah |
(Talking to Ellison) Bring him over the border and leave him there! |
Ellison nods a yes. The man takes Ellison's gun. A shot is heard. The man wide opens his eyes, then falls on the ground. Sarah has a Glock in her hand, aimed to the man. She turns her head back, to her left, where there is Murch, aiming a Beretta 92 gripping it with his right hand. Ellison |
(Checks the man at the neck) He is dead. |
Murch |
I... I di... I... |
Sarah |
(Gently takes the gun from his hand) We gave him the chance to save himself, he wanted to act like an idiot. |
That's not your fault, it's only his fault! And I'd have shot him myself, If you hadn't done. Don't think about, it was "him or us", and you did what you had to do. He wanted it... (Goes to Ellison, keeping him a bit away) Stay with him, maybe he'll need to talk. I'll hide the body. Ellison |
No... I'll bury it. |
It's better... to be a woman to talk to him... And I dig better. Sarah |
Yeah... This time try not to go back to unbury what you bury... | Ellison is outside the mountain, in the desert. It's night. He has just finished to dig a hole, and next to him there is the corpse. He goes near to it and does something. He puts something in his pocket. He pushes the body in the hole and starts covering it. Sarah is inside. She goes to Murch, which is working on his PC, at the desk. From the desk, she takes the bottle he used to fill the syringe. Sarah |
Flu vaccine! |
So you are an actor too!? Murch |
Well, it worked... |
Sarah |
(Rubbing a hand in his hair) Well done, scientist with genius flashes! |
"My grandpa was in the SS!" Murch |
No... well, that was the real part... |
Sarah looks at him with a slightly amazed and interrogative expression. Murch |
I'm joking... |
(In a low voice) ...sort of... Sarah |
Any news? |
Murch |
I checked everything all over again, we haven't forgot anything. |
Now we only have to wait. Sarah |
Good. |
